If this works to at least get the Windows 7 computer functional to I think it was March 2016, I was wondering what to do with Microsoft Office 2007 and updates (can I download all of them from Windows Update's web-site and manually install from the computer)?

I would first install Win7 from the dvd-rom, varify it with Microsoft, then install the malware program (in this case Norton 360), update everything with the malware program, then do the SP1 and kind of like a SP2.

So I think the password might have to be removed temporarily so someone does not have to keep entering Windows 7 and typing the password. I have never done this before without Windows Update and don't know if the computer shuts off and turns back on a lot. Windows 7 cumulative update (somewhat like a Service pack 2)? And let the machine do what it needs to do? Install Windows 7 from the dvd-rom, then while not connected to the internet, open/install Service pack 1. Would it be OK to download Service Pack 1 and the Windows 7 cumulative update (somewhat like a Service pack 2). The solution and I was told a Windows 7 machine is what is wanted.

The computer's hardware is older so Windows 10 is not The problem created with this Windows 7 computer was probably a cumulative update or something that is or was also associated with a failed Windows 10 install attempt from Microsoft's Windows Update. If Windows Update is changing, how can I update a fresh install of Windows 7 at this time after Octobers second tuesday updates? Industrial, residential support that should be there for Windows 7 and 8? What Microsoft is doing is wrong, what about government, emergency services, retail, banking, commercial, I read this post and Mr Jumbles on page 41 said there are changes to Windows Update, then below that comment Canadian Tech explained what Microsoft was doing.

I think I have to scan the external usb hard-drives and re-format the internal drive so it can have a complete re-install.Īny recommended things to do? What malware program should I download to do some deep scans? I have used MalwareBytes in safe-mode.Īre there free and good disc imaging software which might save me re-doing an install in the future? It seemed weird seeing that Security Quality Roll-up and/or a Monthly Quality roll-up update. It got stuck at 0% for a few days and the computer was shut-down to try and re-boot it.

I remember that some type of Security Quality Roll-upĪnd/or a Monthly Quality roll-up update or some other file was installing before the computer went down. Or there was an update and it did not complete properly about 1 week ago in the beginning of October or end of September. I looked at my Vista install and I see Created was 2011, Modified was 2009 and Accessed was 2011. Not from 2010 or so when Windows 7 was made or later when it was installed onto the machine. The Created, Modified and Accessed dates are not what they should be. So I went into task manager - right-clicked explorer.exe - and selected properties. The problems and notifications from explorer.exe kept coming up. Trying to even do a full-scan with Norton in safe-mode won't allow it to turn on and scan. I tried doing these things and they did not work: the post suggestion and the link above suggested by Canadian Tech, downloading files and updates, different internet browsers, opening in safe-mode (multiple types) and the last known good configuration,Ĭhecking the bios. I think I have to do complete re-install. This could be a virus or malware? Any recommendations?

Some other things noticed are that Windows Explorer keeps not responding/crashing or not working, Google Chrome will not open (But it has many processes open in Task Manager) and Windows Pictures/My Pictures will not open or respond. So, would following the ideas in the links and reading these articles help with fixing the Windows 7 update problem? Obviously that's not the best way, but it had to be done after days of nothing happening. To use the computer, it has had to be shut-down manually with the power button or the plug pulled They shut-down to computer and Windows says it is installing the updates, but they remain at 0%. I have to try and fix someone's machine who is using Windows 7. Last one for Vista and Windows 7 if needed: I have these articles handy about Windows 7 installing problems:
